‘Ponting has not been able to take the franchise forward in the past 7 years’, Sourav Ganguly hints to take over as Delhi Capitals head coach

Kolkata : Former Indian skipper and Director of Delhi Capitals has dropped a massive hint on head coach role of Delhi Capitals, following Ricky Ponting’s departure from the position.

Ponting was appointed as head coach of the franchise in 2018 .

Despite Delhi qualifying for 3 playoffs, they haven’t won any title.

Sourav Ganguly ,in an interview with Aajkal, took a dig at Ponting’s tenure saying, ” I have to plan for next year’s IPL. I want to win the IPL for Delhi Capitals once. The mega auction is next year, and hence I have started planning from now on. Geoffrey Boycott was right, as Ponting has not been able to take the franchise forward in the past 7 years. I have to speak with the franchise and ask them to look at Indian coaches”.

When asked about replacement of Head Coach role of Delhi Capitals, he said, “I will be the head coach. Let’s see how I perform. Will need to recruit some new players”.

It will be interesting to see if Sourav Ganguly who has been mastermind behind many major decisions of Indian Cricket Team , becoming head coach and guiding the franchise towards success.
