ICC T20 World Cup: Scotland, Oman seal Super 12 berth; Papua New Guinea, Bangladesh to return home

Al-Amerat: Scotland registered their second victory in the ongoing ICC World T20 beating Papua New Guinea by 17 runs in Group B at the Al-Amerat Cricket Ground on Tuesday. With a game in hand and two back to back wins in the pocket, Scottish moved an inch closer to Super 12 berth.

Kyle Coetzer’s men posted a solid 165/9 in 20 overs before Papua New Guinea almost did the unthinkable only to be get all-out on 148.Scotland powered their innings through veteran Richie Berrington(70) and wicket-keeper batsman Mathew Cross(45). The duo stitched a 92run stand taking the score from 26 to 118.

However, rest of the batter failed miserably as the line up collapsed horribly though they did get to a respectable score. Kabua Morea(4/31) topped the charts for PNG bowlers while Chad Sopper who would play a handy role with the bat as well registered figures of 3/24.

Papua New Guinea, chasing 166 at one stage were reeling at 35/5 before a the fightback started. Norman Vanua(47) and Sese Bau(24)topped the charts for PNG while it was Vanua who actually lead the onslaught pairing up with Kipling Doriga and Chad Soper to claw their way back into the game for a brief period and it looked like they would like the unthinkable would happen.

However, Scottish bowlers especially Josh Davey(4/18) and Mark Watt(1/23) held their composure helping their side to register the victory. Kabua Morea(4/31) topped the charts for PNG bowlers while Chad Sopper who would play a handy role with the bat as well registered figures of 3/24.

In the other game, Bangladesh managed to get their first victory in the ongoing tournament with a 26 run win over Oman.

Chasing 154, the hosts line up collapsed horribly as apart from Jatinder Singh(40) and Kashyap Prajapati(21), none were able to stick at the crease. Bangladesh bowlers bowled a stellar spell lead by Mustafizur Rahman(4/36) and Shakib-Al-Hasan(3/28) to restrict the hosts to 127/9.

Earlier, Bangladesh crumbled as well getting all-out on 153. Mohammad Naim(64) and Shakib-Al-Hasan(42) were the top scorers for the side with the duo construct a partnership of 80 runs while apart from them and skipper Mahmudullah(17), other failed to get to double digits. For Oman though, Bilal Khan(3/18) and Fayyaz Butt(3/30) were the pick of the bowlers.
