Camp Nou: Lionel Messi has reportedly told Barcelona officials that he wants to leave the club and will activate a clause to end unilaterally his contract, according to TyC Sports. According to sources, the club will demand a fee for the player rather than allowing him to go free. The club claim the clause became inactive after June 10th.
Messi’s decision comes in after Barcelona’s 8-2 drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich at the Champions League quarterfinals last week. It was also reported that the Argentine wasn’t happy with the treatment of the club officials.

The rumours of Messi doesn’t want to stay at Barca was first revealed after a Spanish journalist claimed that Messi wanted a move. Although Barcelona won the La Liga in 2018 and 2019, Messi and Co. haven’t been able to win the Champions League for the last five years. Having given the best years of his life, he doesn’t want to stay here and waste any time in rebuilding the side.

And with the Argentine star following Manchester City on Instagram, chances are high that he is heading to England. Guardiola has not won the Champions League since he managed Messi at Barcelona and with the coach only likely to stay at City for another year, a Last Dance with his old mentor could tempt Messi towards Manchester.
However, where he goes remains to be seen with Inter Milan also showing interest in the talisman to bring him to San Siro. Meanwhile, President of Catalonia Quim Tora I Pla has reacted to the news of Messi leaving.

It’s all part of the game; changing clubs, moving on… The only thing that could have been a little more ceremonious is his exit from Barcelona. After all it’s a 16-year association, winning 34 titles for the club and scoring well over 600 goals with around 276 assists.
While Manchester City fans can rejoice now, it looks a little ‘Messi’ for Barcelona at this point.
