Cracker of contests on cards as Europe biggies lock horns in pre-quarterfinals

Budapest: The ongoing edition of Euro 2020 is getting better and better after the exciting round-robin stages as four heavily fancied teams will be up against each other in the pre-quarterfinals which starts June 26.

With the Round of 16 fixtures finalised, the football world will have their minds in Seville on June 27 where Belgium face Portugal in one of a cracker of contests. The encounter will garner much attention as Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo will also aim to add more to his tally to become the all-time highest scorer internationally.

Ronaldo is currently sitting with 109 internationals goals — same as former Iranian legend Ali Daei — courtesy a brace against France that helped Portugal reach Euro 2020 knockouts. A goal against Belgium will take Ronaldo to greater heights.

The second most awaited encounter will be Germany taking on England in London on June 29. While Germany made a remarkable return after their loss in the opener while Gareth Southgate’s England will aim to continue their momentum.

Gareth Bale will lead Wales against Denmark, who reached the Round of 16 after their traumatized opener when teammate Christan Eriksen collapsed owing to a cardiac arrest. Spain playing Croatia would also be a highlight in the knockouts, with both teams securing late entry on their final day of group stage.

If defending champions Portugal sail past Belgium, they will face either Italy or Austria. Italy have been brilliant under Roberto Mancini and if everything goes well, fans can expect some top-class action in the quarterfinals.

Having gained a lot of zeal from a perfect score in the group stages Italy would like to cease the trophy to announce their ressurection after a 2018 debacle when they failed to make the World Cup cut in Russia.

World No.1 France would also want to add to their collection after winning the 2018 World Cup as they face Switzerland. The winners from London are most likely to face either Sweden or Ukraine.
