Sheffield: Mason Mount featured yet again in the scoresheet for Chelsea as they won 2-1 against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, keeping their successful run under Thomas Tuchel intact on Monday (January 8).

Chelsea scored all the goals including an own goal. Mount scored with a clinical finish from Timo Werner’s cutback shortly before half-time on 43 minutes. Sheffield could have git their equaliser soon after but their VAR denied them a first-half penalty.

But the Blades were level within nine minutes into the second half when Antonio Rudiger’s bizarre own goal gifted the hosts an equaliser. It was also the first goal Chelsea conceded under Tuchel.

Chelsea took the lead when Blades goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale’s fouled Werner as VAR took centre stage after referee Kevin Friend consulted the pitchside monitor. Jorginho converted from the spot for the second game running on 58 minutes.

Rudiger made up for his earlier error with a string of crucial defensive interventions that kept the scoreline intact. Following this defeat Sheffield remain rooted to the foot of the table, 12 points from relegation, facing the 18th defeat of the season.
