Riyad Mahrez nets a hat-trick as Manchester City pump five past Burnley

Manchester: An outstanding hat-trick from Riyad Mahrez helped Manchester City beat Burnley 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday(November 28). Benjamin Mendy and Ferran Torres also etched their name in the scoresheet.

Pep Guardiola set up his side in a 4-2-3-1 formation with John Stones and Ruben Dias at the heart of the defence.Rodri playing in that no.6 role formed a double pivot in the midfield along with Ilkay Gundogan. Riyad Mahrez and Ferran Torres lined up in the attack with Gabriel Jesus playing as a striker.

Machester City hit early when they won ball in the opposition half and quickly exchanged passes before finding Riyad Mahrez who finished off in style before scoring again in the 22nd minute when he ran past two Burnley players in the box with ease before curling it in the top corner.

City dominated the game with so much possession that Burnley were finding it difficult to contain them and it looked like it will be a long and dreadful day for the visitors. Benjamin Mendy added the third after De Bruyne made a gem of a cross.

City weren’t looking like to stop attacking and in the second half, came the fourth goal with young Spaniard Ferran Torres slotting it into the bottom corner of the net. Kevin de Bruyne once again showed why he is considered as one of the best midfielders in the world but the day belonged to Mahrez who completed his hat-trick heading it from a Phil Foden cross.

City, now placed at 8th spot will face Fulham on December 5.
