Kolkata: Mohammedan Sporting Club began their season on a high with a thumping 3-0 win over Southern Samity in the Calcutta Premier League on Wednesday at the Kalyani Stadium.

Having roped in Andrey Chernyshov as the head coach for the upcoming season, the Russin fared well on his debut as the Black Panthers took the lead through Serbian Nikola Stojanovic early in the 14th minute. Sk. Faiaz doubled the lead on 40 minutes before Azharuddin Mallick making it 3-0 six minutes from time.

Elsewhere at Rabindra Sarovar Stadium, BSS Sporting Club defeated Railway FC 3-1. Rahul Paswan, Leonce Dodoz and Tirthankar Sarkar scored for BSS while the only goal for Railway was scored by Sukaram Sardar.

Football is back in the ‘City of Joy’ as the new season kicked off after more than a year since all sporting activities were cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the city. Earlier on the opening day, defending champions Peerless SC defeated Kidderpore SC 4-1.
