Anfield: Manchester City kept their winning streak intact and took their lead at the top of the table to five points, thanks to a couple of Alisson Becker blunders as they defeated Liverpool 4-1 victory at Anfield on Sunday (January 7).

Ilkay Gundogan scored a brace while Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden also registered their names in a big win for Pep Guardiola’s side. Both the teams started the match slowly but it was Liverpool who had the first clear chance after 25 minutes when Sadio Mane headed over from close range.

Roberto Firmino came close but his volley from outside of the area was tipped over the bar by Alisson. With 10 minutes to go before the break, Gundogan missed a penalty after Fabinho was brought down by Sterling in the box.

Gundogan made up for his miss converting on 49 minutes when he reacted to Alisson’s save from Foden’s strike.

Liverpool were also awarded a penalty just after the hour mark when Ruben Diaz pulled down Mohamed Salah in the box and the Egyptian converted from the spot, to make it 1-1 for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

City went ahead on 73 minutes when Foden took advantage of Alisson’s mistake to set up Gundogan for his brace. The Brazilian made yet another massive error as his stray pass went straight to Bernardo Silva who set up Sterling on 76 minutes. Foden scored the fourth goal on 83 minutes to seal the game.
