Goa: After an unfortunate loss to NorthEast United FC, second boys ATK Mohun Bagan will take on Kerala Blasters on Sunday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda.
With Edu Garcia missing due to injury, Marcelino Leite, the man who joined them from Odisha FC on loan might debut for the club. The former ISL golden boot winner can change things in his new club.
“Kerala Blasters are a good opponent. I think they had a possibility to win in the last match (against us) and we needed a lot of effort, discipline and intelligence to win that tie. They have improved a lot. But, we have to think about our game and not think about them, says Antonio Lopez Habas in the pre-match press conference.
He further added, ” We have shown improvement in our performance in the last few matches and we have to continue improving. After the first phase of the league, the team has consolidated the system, the idea. Now, we have to improve and increase our attacking performance.”
Kerala on the other hand have been playing some good football. They could have scored numerous goals in their last match against Jamshedpur FC but lack of finishing denied them from that, but they would be aiming the ATK MB match.
“It was a question of one detail (defensive mistake), not that they were better than us,” said Vicuna, last season’s title-winning coach with then Mohun Bagan himself.
“Now the circumstances are different. ATKMB is the former champion and they are second. They have fantastic players and a good coach. It’s going to be a difficult challenge for us,” he added.
