ISL 2021-22: Chennaiyin FC secure victory; FC Goa hold Hyderabad to a stalemate

Goa: Chennaiyin FC returned to their victorious path with a 2-1 win over Odisha FC in the Indian Super League 2021-22 at the Tilak Maidan Stadium here on Saturday ( December 18). On the other hand, FC Goa played out a highly entertaining 1-1 draw with Hyderabad FC at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim on the same day.

Germanpreet Singh scored the opener, which was also his first-ever goal in the ISL. Mirlan Murzaev doubled the lead in the second half with a brilliant strike from distance.

With this victory, Božidar Bandović’s men moved to third in the points table, and are levelled on points with  Jamshedpur FC who are second. Odisha, however, succumbed to their second straight defeat.

They dropped to fifth place with nine points from six matches. Chennaiyin have 11 points from six games. Javi Hernandez scored a superb goal to pull one back, but it was not enough in the end.

Elsewhere, Joel Chianese scored his first goal of the season and gave the lead to Hyderabad with a brilliant header on 54 minutes but Airan Cabrera equalised for FC Goa just after the hour mark on 62 minutes.

With the draw, the Nizams are now second in the group with 11 points from six matches and the Gaurs are standing on the seventh position with seven points from the same number of matches.
