San Juan : Argentina played out a nail-bitting goalless draw against Brazil, as they advanced into the main round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia’s win assured enough points for the Albiceleste, to go through.

Brazil already secured their spot prior to this game, sitting at the top of the table with 35 points and Argentina are second with 29 points, six points clear of Ecuador who are currently in the third place.

In an evenly poised game, both the sides gave a fight as none of them were able to impose themselves, Vinicius Jr, Raphinha and Matheus Cunha started for the Selecaos upfront. A chip from Vinicius went wide on 17 minutes as Rodrigo de Paul forced a save out of Alisson five minutes before half time.

During the final moments, Lionel Messi who  was otherwise quiet through out the game made Alisson get down to save a shot from 20 metres, “I gave it all I could,” Messi said. “This was a very intense game … It’s been a while since I’ve been out [injured] and it’s not easy to play in a game that demands this kind of pace.” said the Argentine Captain.

“We knew it was going to be like this, a match that was tough and hard to perform in.”
