Amateur Soccer League Season-1 is set to kick start, first such league in Kolkata

Kolkata : For the very first time Kolkata is going to witness an Amateur football league being played, as sixteen amateur teams battle it out on the ground. This tournament is the first of its kind, aimed for a long term development of the amateur footballing circuit of the City of Joy.

Kolkata as correctly termed “The Mecca of Indian football”, has always been passionate about this game. Every nook and corner of the streets of the Kolkata overflows with love for this game. This league is aiming to provide talents from this city, a better stage and will help them to nurture their talent to make it big, even in professional level.

The League will be held over a month’s duration at Clive House Nichu Maath, Nagerbazar (Kolkata). Sixteen amateur teams will be participating divided into two divisions. Subhadra Memorial Trust – a NGO for patients fighting with cancer, is one of the key sponsors for Amateur Soccer League 2021 (ASL).

The league will get under way from 20th February 2021 to 21st March 2021. The game is going to unfold over the time, when the sixteen teams divided into First and Second division will play at least 7 matches among themselves. The team with the highest point is going to be crowned the champion for this season. In addition to that, a team from first division is going to relegated to the second division, whereas a two teams from second division will be promoted to first division for the next season.

The teams who will be placed third and fourth in second division, will face each other in a playoff to qualify for the first division. Amateur Soccer League season 2 will be played with ten first division teams and four new teams added to second division.

This league will be benefitting amateur footballers from all over Kolkata, to focus in professional field. Many well known faces in football have come forward and showed their support, SC East Bengal defender Raju Gaikwad is the Brand Ambassador of this league.

It is known that all the amateur footballers dream to showcase their skills and talents, hoping for a better exposure and acknowledgement. In this league, experienced teams like Colony Institute, Wam FC, UKFC, Soccer City FC with the newbies like ASFC, 86/1, JU X-Men, South Calcutta FC will be fighting for the 1st Division glory. They are quite popular teams in the amateur circuit.

The second division is going to feature teams like FIIOB, Avengers City FC, FC Bengal, RAFA, Young Guns FC, Bally Young Star and even fan clubs like EBRP (East Bengal Fan Club) and Blaugrana Fans of Bengal ( Fan club of FC Barcelona). These teams will fight it out to secure their place in the first division for the next season.
