Gokulam Kerala claim fourth spot; NEROCA breeze past Sudeva Delhi

Kolkata: The final matchday of round 9 of the I-league saw a double header as Gokulam Kerala climbed to the fourth spot in the table crushing Indian Arrows 4-0 while NEROCA beat Sudeva Delhi FC 2-0 in the other game as the season approached its twilight.

NEROCA, having gone through a disappointing campaign so far squared off with Sudeva Delhi FC Kishore Bharati Krirangan on Friday(February 19). Although the majority of the first half were even-stevens, it was the visitors who took the lead through a thumping header by striker Judah Garcia just before half-time.

Sudeva despite dominating the ball possession failed to capitalize. Songpu Singsit’s clinical finish from outside of the box icing on the cake for NEROCA who now stands at tenth.

Gokulam Kerala, with hopes to close the gap in the top half of the table came to face the bunch of youngsters at  Kalyani Stadium in the evening. The game saw a goalless first half as Arrows showed good resilience at the back despite the hosts being the more dominant side.

Gokulam opened the scoring through an Emil Benny strike just after the second half resumed before Denny Antwi’s 50 th minute penalty clearly dented the spirits of the visitors. Lalromawia and Ngangom Ronald Singh completed thrashing netting one each.

Arrows looked the second-best side in the later half of the game as Gokulam, with this win stand behind Real Kashmir in the table with 13 points.
