Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday unveiled the schedule and confirmed the host nations for all major men’s tournaments in white-ball cricket for the 2024 to 2031 cycle.
Thus, a total of eight new men’s global tournaments, will be part of ICC’s next commercial cycle from 2024-31. The eight marquee tournaments included two ODI World Cups, four T20 World Cups and two editions of the Champions Trophy. As per ESPNcricinfo, overall there were 28 proposals from 17 countries, including 14 hosts.
The ICC Board sub-committee confirmed that India will be the hosts for the 2026 T20 World Cup, 2029 Champions Trophy, and 2031 ODI World Cup. India will be hosting the 2026 T20 World Cup along with Sri Lanka and the 2031 ODI World Cup along with Bangladesh. The 2029 Champions Trophy will be hosted by the BCCI alone.
The cricketing governing body has decided to take T20 World Cup to the USA in a bid to pitch for the Olympics. Another big highlight of the ICC’s announcement is the return of the Champions Trophy. Pakistan have been awarded the hosting rights for the 2025 Champions Trophy as the country is set to host a major ICC event for the first time since 1996 when it hosted the men’s ODI World Cup alongside India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan were also the winner of the last edition of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, held in England and Wales.
In October/November 2027, Namibia will host the Men’s Cricket World Cup for the first time alongside Zimbabwe and South Africa. In October 2028 the T20 World Cup will be played in Australia and New Zealand. In 2030, England will share T20 World Cup hosting with Ireland and Scotland. It will be the first time since 1999 that Ireland and Scotland have hosted a major global cricket event.
