Sharjah : New Zealand defeated West Indies by 8 runs in a close encounter in Semi Final 2 of ICC Women’s T20 WC 2024 at Sharjah & qualified for final to face South Africa. This is the 1st time since 2010 Women’s T20 WC that New Zealand qualified for Final.
Defending a low total of 129 runs, Kiwi bowlers took wickets at regular intervals of time. Eden Carson wrecked havoc, omitting the West Indies top order.
With Windies struggling for 63-5 after 11 overs, veteran Deandra Dottin (33) took the charges and tried hard to get them past the finishing line but things turned to New Zealand’s favour yet again with her wicket in 17th over of Amelia Kerr.
With 15 runs required off the last over, part timer Suzie Bates took the Ball in hand and conceded just 6 runs and New Zealand not only quality for final but also took the revenge of ICC Women’s T20 WC 2016 Semi Final, where West Indies defeated New Zealand in Semi Final and went on to win the Tournament later on.
Earlier in 1st innings, West Indies dominated New Zealand with Ball, with Deandra Dottin picking 4-fer.
Georgia Plimmer (33), Suzie Bates (26) & Isabella Gaze (20*) joint efforts took New Zealand to 128-9 (20).
Eden Carson was adjourned the Player of The Match for her heroic spell.
