Govt ready to set up High-Altitude Sports Training Centre near Dharamsala, says Anurag Thakur

New Delhi: Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Anurag Thakur has stated that the Central Government is likely to construct a state-of-the-art ‘High Altitude Sports Training Centre’ if the state government of Himachal Pradesh them the land.

Thakur, who had been the state’s representative at the Parliament, stated that special efforts are being made to establish Himachal Pradesh as a ‘sports hub’, with world-class facilities being built in each of the state’s districts.

“The central government is ready to set up a ‘National High Altitude Sports Training Centre’ near Dharamsala if the state government provides the required land for it,” Thakur said during a media conference on Sunday.

“We will try to improve and expand sports facilities in Dharamsala in near future. We shall also work to bring more sports events to the city in near future,” said Thakur, who is also the Union I & B Minister.

Thakur stated that the Narendra Modi government was indeed working hard to improve the country’s sporting standards, with all elite athletes receiving the best training facilities in India and abroad. At the Tokyo Olympics, India won an unprecedented seven medals, including the first individual gold medal in athletics through javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra.

The former BCCI president, also mentioned how he contributed to Dharamsala having one of the best cricket stadiums in the world. “Dharamsala is my second home. I used to visit this place frequently and even before joining politics, I worked to develop the city as a world-class cricketing center,” he said.
