New Delhi: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) announced the signing of New Zealand cricketer Glenn Phillips as a replacement for Jos Buttler. Glenn will be joining the Rajasthan squad for the remaining matches of IPL 2021, which is scheduled to start from 19th September in the UAE.

The right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman from Auckland is currently part of the Barbados Royals franchise in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The 24-year-old Glenn made his international debut for New Zealand during a bilateral T20I series against South Africa in 2017.

Apart from having played 25 T20Is for his country and having participated in the CPL, he has also played in England’s Vitality Blast as well as in The Hundred.

“Jos Buttler will not be part of the remainder of #IPL2021, as he and Louise are expecting a second child soon. We wish them well, and can’t wait for the newest member of the #RoyalsFamily,” the franchise tweeted.

Rajasthan will also be without the services of star England pacer Jofra Archer, who has been ruled out for the rest of the year due to a fracture in his right elbow.

The IPL this year was postponed initially due to the rising number of cases in the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in India. Several cricketers, however, will not return for the second half of the competition, thus franchises are forced to make replacements before the competition gets underway from September.

The Royals, who are placed fifth in the points table, resume their IPL 2021 campaign against the Punjab Kings on September 21.
