Windhoek: Former South African allrounder David Wiese will be representing Namibia in the upcoming T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman. Wiese, who last donned the Proteas jersey back in 2016, will be benefitted since his father was born in the country.
De Bruyn expressed his excitement at having Wiese, a veteran of 255 T20 games, and stated his inclusion will benefit Namibia. “David’s dad was born here, so he’s eligible to play for Namibia. He’s playing in the T20 Blast in England, but will join us after that and is also available going forward after the World Cup, so I’m super excited about that,” Pierre was quoted as saying to The Namibian.
“His team, Sussex, are in the quarterfinals so we must see how far he gets there, but I hope he will be able to join for the Free State trip at least. With the experience of playing in various T20 leagues around the world, including the IPL, he will be hopeful of making an impact with his new international,” added the head coach.
Wiese played six ODIs and 20 T20Is for the Rainbow nation scoring 194 runs. He also picked up 33 wickets before joining Sussex on a three-year Kolpak deal in 2017. Wiese announced his retirement from South African cricket in 2017.
