FC Barcelona rope in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on deadline-day transfer

Barcelona: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to join FC Barcelona on a permanent deal ending his four-year career at Arsenal after the deal was signed at the last hour of the January transfer day deadline on a free transfer.

The Gabon striker had not played a single game for the Gunner since December 6 and was set to leave ever since. A series of poor performances adding to his disciplinary issues along with a prolonged row with manager Mikel Arteta saw Aubameyang being stripped of the captaincy along with reduced game time.

The start of the winter transfer window was resonating with the news of Aubameyang joining the Catalan giants on a loan deal, however, reports in Spain on Monday suggested the deal to have fallen through. The reason was noted to be the financial troubles of the Spaniards. Nevertheless, final reports claim that Aubameyang is set to join on a  deal after taking a substantial wage cut.

The deal will prove beneficial for the side, even though the North London side will not receive any amount of finance out of it. On the other hand, the player is set to receive much more game time in La Liga with Memphis Depay, Ansu Fati, and others out due to injury. As for Barcelona, the addition of an experienced striker like Aubameyang may help the side to redeem from the shambolic condition the club is in. With Ousmane Dembéle set to stay, it can be hoped to see the former Borussia Dortmund duo back in action.
