Dubai: Australia’s hero in the second Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval, Marnus Labuschagne overtaken England’s Joe Root to become the No. 1 batter in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings. Pakistan captain Babar Azam has also risen to the top of the ICC Rankings for batters in Tests and T20Is, respectively.
Labuschagne has climbed to the top of the ICC rankings for batters for the very first time after sensational performances in the two matches of the Ashes so far. Marnus made his first Ashes century in the second Test, and he was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his innings of 103 and 51. With career-best 912 rating points, he went past Root (897), who has dropped to the second spot.

While Indian captain Virat Kohli slipped a notch to be placed seventh in the latest ICC rankings,Rohit Sharma remained static at fifth position. Among bowlers, Ravichandran Ashwin is still in second place behind Australia skipper Pat Cummins. Kohli, who played the second Test against New Zealand, was earlier placed sixth and now with 756 points is in seventh position.

Mitchell Starc has also returned to the world’s top 10 Test bowlers for the first time since January, after returning figures of 6/80 in the second Test, which included a four-for in the first innings that helped reduce England to 236. He moves up to the 9th spot.
On the other hand, England’s Ollie Robinson has entered the world’s top 25 bowlers for the first time, with a career-high 597 points, while Joe Root has entered the world’s top 10 all-rounders for the first time after his 111th Test match.

In the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, Pakistan’s Babar Azam and England’s Dawid Malan are tied at the first spot. His teammate Mohammad Rizwan, who has had a tremendous 2021, climbed to No.3 in T20I batters’ rankings with a career-high 798 points and is the second Pakistani in the top three position of the list.
