The 23 year-old winger joined AS Roma back in 2017 from Istanbul Besaksehir and since then he made 88 appearances in all competitions scoring 17 goals and 12 assists. Under made quite an impression at the Stadio Olimpico for his impressive distance shooting, most famously after that goal against Inter Milan back in 2018 when his long range drive made Nerrazzuri keeper Handanovic a mere spectator. Cengiz is also a regular member of the Turkish national side appearing 21 times and scoring six goals.
Speaking to the club website after the signing Cengiz said: ‘I can’t wait to go to Leicester and start training. I’ve always wanted to play in England and this is a great opportunity to play in the Premier League. I will try to help my team-mates on the pitch and off the pitch and I believe that I can improve my performance every day. I think I am fast and can create lots of chances for my colleagues.
‘I feel very good because my best friend plays for Leicester City. I am very happy to be able to play with Çağlar [Söyüncü] and I always watched Leicester’s games because of him.’
Foxes manager Brendan Rogers has managed to complete his second signing of the summer after Belgium full-back Timothy Castagne from Atalanta for £22m, as a replacement for £50m Chelsea signing Ben Chilwell. With Vardy & Maddinson in top form, Ünder will surely provide more attacking option for the Rogers.
