I-League 2021-22: Brief review of club standings after match day 7

Kolkata: As the seventh match day came to an end, Kolkata giants Mohammedan SC maintained the top spot in the table despite a 1-1 draw against defending champions Gokulam Kerala FC. The Black Panthers currently have 16 points from seven games. They are followed by Gokulam Kerala FC with 14 points from six games. While the Malabarians have had two draws they are yet to be handed a defeat in the league.

 

Round Glass Punjab had started out great but had slipped to the fourth position with  eleven points after being without a win in their last three encounters. While the team from Punjab drew against Neroca FC, they were handed the most recent loss against Real Kashmir FC in a dominating 0-2 encounter and previously by debutantes Sreenidi Deccan. Sreenidi Deccan on the other hand currently occupy the third position in the tournament with thirteen points from seven games.

The other debutantes Rajasthan United FC and Kenkre FC have played six games each, while the team from desserts is at the sixth position playing out a yet another draw with Kenkre, the later is at the bottom of the table with just two points.

The IFA shield winners Real Kashmir FC had hit quite a rough patch, but are back to the winning way with a dominant 2-0 win against , RoundGlass Punjab FC. The Snow leopards currently hold the seventh position in the table with nine points from six affairs.

 

Sudeva Delhi and Indian Arrows, the AIFF setup to promote grassroot development boast of an all Indian squad. Although the teams have not been quite striking but the young Indian talents had some good encounters and currently hold the 12th and 11th positions in the table.

As for personal statistics, Mohammedan SC’s Trinidad and Tobago striker Marcus Joseph has been running front for the Golden Boot with nine goals in seven appearances. He is being followed close by Gokulam Kerala’s Luka Majcen with eight goals in six appearances. The Black Panthers favourite Nikola has made five assists in 7 appearances helping them to retain the top spot.

The I-League teams will be back in action once more on Monday, March 28 to compete for the most prestigious trophy of the country.
