Bengaluru : Bengal defeated Chandigarh by 3 runs at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru in Pre-Quarterfinal 1 of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. Sayan Ghosh played pivotal role with his spell of 4/30, helping Bengal to clinch a last over thriller.

Defending 160 runs, Bengal wrapped 4 wickets of Chandigarh top order within 10 overs for 56 runs.

A 48 runs partnership between Pradeep Yadav (27) & Raj Bawa (32) brought Chandigarh back on track.

The hard fought middle overs battle between both sides saw the match going to last over with 11 runs required. Bengal pacer Sayan Ghosh conceded just 6 runs, as Chandigarh could only manage till 156-9, thereby giving memorable victory to his Bengal. As a result of this win Bengal have qualified to Quarterfinal.

In 1st innings, Bengal Batting 1st lost wickets at regular interval of time. Chandigarh pacer Jagjit Singh picked 4-fer to push Bengal middle order on backfoot.

Handy contributions from Karan Lal (33), Writtick Chatterjee (28), Pradipta Pramanik (30), kept Bengal into the game.

Mohammed Shami (32*) cameo in last 2 overs saw Bengal post fighting total of 159-9 (20). His innings included 2 sixes and 3 boundaries, playing pivotal role in Bengal’s win.

Sayan Ghosh was adjourned the man of the match for his heroic spell.

Bengal will now take on Baroda in Quarterfinal 1 at the same venue on December 11, 2024.
