Kolkata : Shreyas Iyer reportedly will be included in the BCCI Central Contract in a matter of few days.
The beginning of Gautam Gambhir era might prove a blessing in disguise for Shreyas Iyer as his career was almost entering a dark phase.
Shreyas Iyer was out of international Cricket after the 2nd Test against England.
BCCI dropped him regarding fitness issues and owing to bad form, since his weakness against short ball was exposed.
BCCI president Jay Shah made a rule that players out of international duty must play domestic Cricket. At that point of time Ranji Trophy was going on & Iyer was supposed to play for Mumbai as per the rule.
Shreyas Iyer despite stating a back pain & not playing for Mumbai jn Ranji, joined Kolkata Knight Riders training camp, missing Ranji Games.
Though he joined Mumbai from Quarter Finals, playing vital part in their win in final, his actions triggered BCCI & they scrapped him from Central Contract along with Ishan Kishan.
However, BCCI included him, reportedly on the urge of Gautam Gambhir in India’s ODI squad for Sri Lanka series on July 18, much to a surprise of many.
This might prove a 2nd life for Shreyas Iyer under Gautam Gambhir, with whom he worked in KKR’s successful IPL 2024 winning campaign.
This inclusion might re earn him a the place in Central Contract in a matter of few days as per multiple sources.
