Kolkata : Indian icon and Maharashtra skipper Ruturaj has slammed poor umpiring decision over Ankit Bawane’s controversial dismissal in Ranji Trophy 2024-25.

Gaikwad, who’s currently leading India A in Australia, took to his Instagram story, to raise voice against a controversial dismissal decision that umpire gave against Maharashtra stand-in skipper and leading run scorer Ankit Bawane.

The incident occurred in Ranji Trophy 2024-25 clash between Maharashtra and Services at Pune.

Maharashtra skipper Ankit Bawane played a vital knock of 73 (104) and saved his side from collapse after they lost quick wickets from other end.

The incident happened in the 1st Ball of 50th over in 1st innings of Services bowler Amit Shukla. Bawne was dismissed caught out despite the ball bouncing in front of the fielder Shubham Rohilla at second slip.

The replays clearly showed the ball bouncing before getting into the fielder’s hands. The fielders including Shukla and Rohilla even appealed for the catch after this.

However, the umpires adjudged Bawne out which made the Maharashtra captain engage in a lengthy discussion with the umpires before walking back to the pavilion, with video clearly showing Ball bouncing before the catch; a Bump Ball.

Gaikwad, who’s in Australia, expressed his agony over the dismissal on social media in his Instagram story terming it as ‘pathetic’.

He questioned on how such thing can happen in live game and it was ‘shame’ for fielders to even appeal for the catch.

Furious Gaikwad wrote, “How can this be given out in a live game? Shame to even appeal for this catch! Absolutely Pathetic”.

An incident like this is serious, alarming, and might be a question mark on the umpiring standards despite improved technology.
