IPL 2022: KL Rahul hits second ton to guide Lucknow Super Giants to 36-run win over Mumbai Indians

Mumbai: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are back to winning ways with a comprehensive victory of 36 runs against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Indian Premier League (IPL). KL Rahul led the charge with the bat to slam his second remarkable century of the season.

LSG made a change to replace Avesh Khan with Mohsin Khan. Openers KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock started well. Quinton de Kock was caught inside off to Jasprit Bumrah. At the end of powerplay, LSG were 32-1 with Manish Pandey joining skipper KL Rahul  at the crease.

At the half-way stage, LSG were 72-1 with KL Rahul and Manish Pandey hitting some maximums. KL Rahul reached his half-century but Kieron Pollard broke the partnership, catching Pandey at short fine-leg.

MI took two more wickets. Daniel Sams and Pollard dismissed Stoinis and Krunal Pandya. KL Rahul creamed three fours in a row to move into the nineties. LSG skipper reached his second century of the season with a six. Ayush Badoni smacked a maximum straight down the ground. LSG finished their innings with a total of 168/6.

Chasing a target of 169, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan took time to get things going. The MI skipper led the charge with the bat and MI were 43-0 at the end of the powerplay. Ravi Bishnoi scalped Kishan’s wicket in first slip.

In the 9th over, Mohsin Khan caught Dewald Brevis at third man. MI lost two more wickets of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. Tilak Varma switched gears to conceive 16 runs from Bishnoi’s over.

With 71 required off the final five overs, Varma creamed consecutive fours. Pollard and Varma brought MI closer as they required 50 off the last three overs. Holder picked the crucial wicket of Tilak Varma. Krunal Pandya bowled the final over to scalp two wickets and a run-out as LSG won by 36 runs in the end.
