Turin: An early first-half strike from Cristiano Ronaldo along with an own goal later ensured Juventus a crucial 2-0 win over Roma in Serie A at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on Saturday (February 6). Ronaldo kept his first outing after his 36th birthday a memorable while the defending champion closed the gap in the points table.

Despite enjoying a lot of possession on the ball, the visitors failed to capitalise on it. Ronaldo opened the scoring for the hosts in the 12th minute after Alvaro Morata played a pass in the path of the Portuguese maestro to finish it off.

He got another chance in the first half but his attempt was denied by the cross-bar. Rabiot had a very good outing giving fellow central midfielder Arthur Melo very good support to control the tempo of the game.

Roma pushed hard in the second-half for a comeback but were unable to create an opening. Henrikh Mkhitaryan was kept fairly quiet by the home side’s defence. Juventus extended the lead through an own goal from Roger Ibanez after he failed to clear a delivery into the box from Dejan Kulusevski, putting it into his own net.

The Bianconeri took full three points to place themselves at third behind AC Milan.
