Kolkata : Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) claimed the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 Cup by defeating Bengaluru FC 2-1 after extra time at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday, April 12, 2025. This victory secured the League Double for MBSG, as they had already won the ISL Shield earlier in the season. They remained unbeaten at home throughout the campaign, becoming only the second team after Mumbai City FC (2020-21) to win both the League Shield and the ISL Cup in the same season.
The match began with MBSG leveraging strong home support to press forward early. In the ninth minute, Jamie Maclaren’s right-footed shot from inside the box was saved by Bengaluru FC’s goalkeeper, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. Anirudh Thapa also made a significant attempt, driving into the box and unleashing a shot that was blocked by the defense.
Bengaluru FC responded around the 20th minute, with Alberto Noguera delivering a cross to Sunil Chhetri, who couldn’t convert. Shortly after, Edgar Mendez’s header was saved by MBSG’s goalkeeper, Vishal Kaith, keeping the score level.
The breakthrough came in the 49th minute when Bengaluru FC took the lead unexpectedly due to an own goal by MBSG defender Alberto Rodriguez. Williams exploited space on the right flank and delivered a cross intended for Mendez. Under pressure, Rodriguez’s attempted clearance resulted in the ball finding the back of his own net.
MBSG sought an equalizer and came close in the 56th minute. Subhasish Bose regained possession near midfield and sent a pass to Jason Cummings just outside the penalty area. Cummings’s left-footed shot required a full-stretch save from Sandhu to maintain Bengaluru’s lead.
The equalizer arrived in the 72nd minute when MBSG were awarded a penalty for a handball by Chinglensana Singh. Jason Cummings calmly converted the spot-kick, placing the ball into the bottom left corner to level the match.
As the game progressed into extra time, MBSG continued to apply pressure. In the 96th minute, Jamie Maclaren capitalized on a defensive lapse, striking a fierce shot from inside the box that beat Sandhu and secured the victory for MBSG.
