Kolkata : Former Australian skipper has appreciated South Africa for win against Australia in ICC World Test Championship final, writing a new history.
South Africa have been close to winning ICC events several times, like 2015 WC, 2023 WC, 2014 T20 WC, 2024 T20 WC, 2025 CT, and so on, but never tasted success. They’re even termed “chokers”. But this time, they broke the curse and defeated mighty Aussies, who’re the defending WTC champion, in the final by 5 wickets.
Clarke said, ” Test Cricket particularly in South Africa – it’s a dream come true. I’m really happy for them, they’ve been so close at so many ICC events, si to finally get this (WTC 2025 title), I hope that it releases the shackles & allows this era, such a talented team, this era can create their own destiny now, they’ve won one, there’s no reason they can’t win more – ODI WC, T20 WC, they’ve been close & they’re a good team, sometimes you’ve to stand in a podium, that’s the credit they’re going to receive & that’s part of sports, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose”.

Clarke backed Australia, and the way the defending champion performed to reach the WTC final. He called for playing same brand of Cricket they’re playing over couple of years.
“I don’t think it’s a bad way that went wrong, at the end of the day, they did brilliantly to qualify for WTC final, they won last year, they’ve made final this year, they have been very successful, it’s about continuing playing brand of Cricket they’ve played last couple of years, they wanna be best team in the world, they gonna try and keep going better”.
