Liverpool: ‘Bring on the champions’. Chanted the 1,500 gathered in English football’s most famous stand in Anfield on Monday (December 7). The Red cruised past Wolves 4-0 and equaled points with Premier League leaders Tottenham. The win gave Jurgen Klopp’s men 24 points from 11 matches, the same as Spurs.

Mohamed Salah scored the opening goal when he took full advantage of a misplay by a Wolves defender on 24 minutes. This was Salah’s 84th goal in Premier League equaling Cristiano Ronaldo’s feat during his Manchester United days.

Liverpool preserved their lead walking into halftime after VAR overruled a decision to award Conor Coady a penalty. Georginio Wijnaldum scored the second goal on 58 minutes when the Dutch midfielder picked up a long ball by Jordan Henderson and fired it over the top corner of the net.

Joel Matip scored the third goal nine minutes later heading a cross from Salah when a corner kick was awarded to them. Nelson Semedo scored an own goal in the 78th minute and sealed the game for the Reds. The wait of 164 days for the Liverpool fans came to an end who had to watch their team lift the trophy first time since 1990. The victory made it much sweeter for the fans.

“It’s wonderful – really exciting when we heard supporters were allowed. It was a great feeling they were back,” scorer Wijnaldum said. “The fans helped the performance a lot because they cheered during the game and before we only had the bench for support,” he added.

“I had goosebumps,” Klopp said. “It was so nice to hear You’ll Never Walk Alone again. If no-one was injured it was a perfect night.”
