Seville: Sevilla and Barcelona played out a 1-1 draw in a thriller match between them in La Liga 2021-22. Ronald Araujo’s header canceled out the opener from Papu Gomez as both the teams settled with a draw.

Going into the game, Sevilla were the better team. Rafa Mir had a goal ruled out for offside which fired from outside 20 yards. It was the Argentine Papu Gomez who broke the deadlock on 32 minutes. Gomez slotted home a cleverly delivered corner.

Barcelona levelled just before the halftime whistle. Ronald Araujo headed in a corner that was adeptly delivered by Ousmane Dembele. In the second half, Jules Kounde was sent off with a straight red when he reacted to Jordi Alba and threw the ball at his face.

After being rendered to 10 men, Sevilla held on to the stalemate as Barcelona kept looking for a winner. Luuk de Jong, Dembele, Jordi Alba, and Gavi all came up with scoring chances but neither could score as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

“We’ve dropped two points,” Xavi said in his post-game news conference. “We deserved to win, even when it was 11 against 11, but I’ve seen a Barcelona with character and that’s what I want. The team is growing.”
