Barcelona :

FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta lashed out on La Liga chief Javier Tebas stating that he has a “sick obsession” with FC Barcelona, he even went to the extent of blaming him for Lionel Messi leaving the club.

The most horrific news for both the club and the fans came roughly a month ago when the news was released that due to Financial Fair Play rules of La Liga, Messi could not renew his contract with the club. FC Barcelona had a wage structure way too high to allow  Messi stay at the club, without breaking the FFP rules.

Following, the departure Tebas blamed FC Barcelona for Messi’s departure when they rejected the €2.7 billion investment deal with CVC Capital Partners. The deal could have allowed them to retain Messi but also would have affected the audio-visual rights of the club for half a century.

Laporta said in an interview, “I believe his comments are improper of the league president.”

“Instead of looking for harmony and understanding, he always looks for conflict and confrontation. He has a sick obsession to see how he can harm Barca and its values, but we Catalans already know him.”

He also blamed Tebas for not bending the financial fair play rules, which could have allowed them to retain Messi.

He said, “He says that Messi has not stayed at Barça, but he has been the lead actor regarding not staying because of his excess of zeal,” he said. “The rest of the leagues have been more flexible [with respect to fair play] and have been able to keep their most relevant players.”

Tebas on the other hand considered Messi’s departure rather “painful”. Regarding which he said,” “Perhaps Messi’s departure is more painful because I personally consider him the best in the history and he didn’t deserve to go like this, not just from Barca but from La Liga.”
