Yorkshire: Jason Gillespie will leave Sussex at the end of ongoing 2020 season to take up the spot left vacant by former South Australia coach Jamie Siddons.

Gillespie was one of South Australia’s most fertile right arm fast bowler with 54 Sheffield Shield matches and 71 Tests in his bag. Having played county cricket in England, the 45 years old Gillespie made a smooth switch into coaching, pioneering Yorkshire to successive Championship titles in 2014 and 2015 before joining Sussex at the start of the season 2018. He also guided the Strikers to the Big Bash League (BBL) title in 2018.

But on the other hand South Australia’s form was terribly erosive. During the past three seasons in the Sheffield Shield, Australian Cricket’s domestic first class competition, the Redbacks won only four out of twenty nine matches.

Gillespie said in a statement, “I’m deeply honoured to be afforded the opportunity to coach the South Australian Cricket Team. To have a chance to work with the players, coaches and off field team at the SACA is very exciting.Team SACA is something I’m very much looking forward to being a part of”

Mike Hussey, known as Mr.Cricket, who was also present with some other eminent personalities at the interview panel of Gillespie, stated “If SACA wants to move forward then there must be change”

Rob Andrew,Sussex Cricket Chief Executive, said : “We are very sorry to see Jason leave after three years at the club, but fully understand and support his decision to return homeland to a new role in South Australian Cricket”. He also added, “We will have the chance to say thank you and wish him well in the next stage of his coaching career”.

He also announced that they would not make any decision on a replacement for Jason until 2021.
