Kolkata: In a massive stride toward professionalizing athlete management, The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is proud to announce a comprehensive modernization of its Sports Science and physical conditioning infrastructure. Spearheaded under the direct involvement of CAB President Sourav Ganguly and the close supervision of the association’s Office Bearers, this initiative marks a historic investment in the future of Bengal Cricket.
This technological upgrade follows the CAB’s recent overhaul of its backroom staff, having successfully onboarded elite Strength & Conditioning (S&C) coaches and Physiotherapists. These professionals were selected through a rigorous, transparent, and unbiased shortlisting process conducted via the Centre of Excellence (CoE), BCCI, ensuring that Bengal cricketers are under the guidance of the country’s premier medical and fitness experts.
To support this elite performance team, the CAB is acquiring state-of-the-art sports science equipment, as detailed here. These additions will fundamentally transform the development, workload management, and rehabilitation of Bengal’s cricketers:
1. Catapult Workload Monitoring System: This technology captures detailed metrics such as movement, speed, and workload to provide real-time insights into player dynamics. It is vital for optimizing performance and mitigating overuse injuries, particularly for fast bowlers, by striking the right balance in training intensity.
2. SMARTSpeed Plus Wireless Timing Gates System (4-Gate): This precise, wireless system measures speed, acceleration, and agility during sprinting drills. By objectively benchmarking running mechanics, it allows coaches to track measurable improvements in on-field quickness over the course of the season.
3. ForceDecks FD Lite – Portable Dual Force Plate System: These lightweight and portable force plates assess an athlete’s strength, movement, asymmetry, and balance through an intuitive application. This allows the performance team to establish baselines, monitor rehabilitation progress, and effectively reduce injury risks.
4. Dynamo Plus Dynamometer: A state-of-the-art tool designed to measure isometric strength and localized muscular force output. It empowers the medical staff to identify specific physical imbalances, paving the way for targeted conditioning and safer, data-backed return-to-play protocols.
5. Vitruve Velocity-Based Training (VBT) System: This linear position transducer captures velocity data for every repetition to optimize load and regulate fatigue based on real-time feedback. By closely managing velocity loss, players can accurately target explosive power and increase their rate of force development in the gym.
6. Exer-Genie Speed Trainer (60 m): A variable resistance training machine that utilizes a rope and cylinder to provide constant friction for speed and power development. It allows for true 360-degree training, enabling players to improve acceleration, multidirectional movement, and rapid deceleration under control.
Through the integration of this elite technology and top-tier personnel, the Cricket Association of Bengal reaffirms its commitment to setting the gold standard for domestic cricket infrastructure in India, ensuring Bengal’s athletes are equipped to compete and succeed at the highest levels of the game.
