Pune: Glenn Maxwell was mocking Virat Kohli during the Royal Challengers Bangalore players’ dressing room celebrations following their win over Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022 Match 49.
Maxwell joked that he wouldn’t bat alongside former captain Virat Kohli any longer, recalling the RCB innings run-out. Maxwell was run-out for three runs after facing only three deliveries while attempting to complete a fast single in response to Kohli’s request in the middle. Robin Uthappa, at short cover, rushed around the ball and got a brilliant throw in to ensure CSK skipper MS Dhoni ripped the bails off in time as Maxwell fell well short of the crease.
Meanwhile, Kohli tried to take a fast single after pushing Ravindra Jadeja’s ball to the off-side in the ninth over. Maxwell looked unhappy after failing to bother the scorers much after being brought in at No. 3 to build on Kohli and Faf du Plessis’ strong opening partnership.
“I just can’t bat with you. You run too fast, you run too fast. You get ones and twos, I don’t,” Maxwell said in a video shared by RCB.
Kohli kicked off the conversation in the locker room by declaring Maxwell the ‘greatest injured player’ as he went in. Kohli praised the Australian all-effort rounder’s with the ball, which led to CSK’s failure to chase down 174 in Pune.
“That was a good win, so important. The greatest injured player in the history of the game (laughs). 2/22 in 4 overs,” Kohli said.
Despite picking up a niggle, Maxwell took the wickets of dangerous Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa for only 22 runs in his 4-over stint.
The victory was significant for RCB, who now have 12 points from 11 games. RCB are now in fourth position, with two points more than SunRisers Hyderabad, who have only played nine matches thus far.
