Breaking: Suresh Raina to miss entire IPL 2020; Deepak Chahar, Ruturaj Gaikwad test COVID-19 positive

Dubai: In a shocking development, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vice-captain Suresh Raina will miss the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League due to personal reasons, the franchise announced on Saturday (August 29). The southpaw had arrived in UAE with the rest of his teammates and support staff a week ago but is now back home in India.

CSK took to Twitter to announce the news, quoting CEO Kasi Viswanathan as saying, “Suresh Raina has returned to India for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of the IPL season. Chennai Super Kings offers complete support to Suresh and his family during this time.”

However, as many as approximately half a dozen of the Chennai Super Kings contingent including a player has tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus, as per reports on Friday. The player has been identified as pacer Deepak Chahar, as per reports. This comes as a huge setback for the Men in Yellow who were supposed to start practicing here in the city from Friday.

 

Meanwhile, in addition to Chahar, his CSK teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad has also tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday (August 29). It is a huge setback for the three-time IPL champions. Due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in India, IPL has been shifted to the UAE, which kicks off from September 19 to November 10.
