Dubai: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) slumped to yet another loss in the Indian Premier League as they lost against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven runs at the Dubai International Stadium on Friday (October 2). Meanwhile, there might be a setback for SRH as lead pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was seen limping out of the ground after he seemed to pull the hamstring towards the end of the CSK innings.

Chasing 165 runs, CSK has to be content with 157/5 in 20 overs. This was CSK’s third consecutive loss after defeats to Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals in their last two encounters. The start was not ideal as they would have wanted losing Shane Watson in the third over itself. Comeback man Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadav and Faf du Plessis followed suit leaving the Yellow Army in a spot of bother as they were 42/4 in the ninth over.

However, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni took the mantle to steady the ship with a 72-run fifth-wicket partnership before the former holed out at the boundary line off T Natarajan (2/43) for a well-made 35-ball 50. The left-hander struck five fours and two sixes. Dhoni tried his bit with 36-ball 47 but that wasn’t enough as CSK finished short.

Earlier, a half-century from youngster Priyam Garg (51 not out) and a 24-ball 31 from Abhishek Sharma propelled SRK to 164/5 in 20 overs. Jonny Bairstow was out for a duck while New Zealander Kane Williamson could only manage nine. Skipper David Warner (28) and Manish Pandey (29) also scored for SRH. For CSK, Deepak Chahar took two wickets.

Brief scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad 164/5 (Priyam Garg 51 not out, Abhishek Sharma 31; Deepak Chahar 2/31) beat Chennai Super Kings 157/5 (Ravindra Jadeja, 50 MS Dhoni 47 not out; T Natarajan 2/43) by seven runs.
