Indian Kabaddi Team barred from any further international participation

A new era of crisis begins for Indian Kabaddi team as International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) has barred the country’s players from participating in international competitions over the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India’s (AKFI) failure to constitute a duly elected body to run its day-to-day affairs.

AKFI is currently under an administrator’s control and a writ petition in this direction is pending before the Delhi high court. The next date of hearing in the matter is on Thursday. AKFI held its elections in Dec 2023 following which Vibhor Jain was elected as the federation’s president and Jitendra Pran Singh as secretary general. However, the returning officer (RO) subjected the approval of election results to the outcome of petition in the court, which led to AKFI still being run by the administrator.

In his letter to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president P T Usha, IKF’s chief Vinod Kumar Tiwari wrote: “It has come to our knowledge that the administrator of AKFI has conducted the elections to the AKFI on 24.12.2023 and one managing committee has already been elected, yet the management of the AKFI continues to be with the administrator. This is a clear violation of the conditions for affiliation to the IKF. Therefore, it has been decided that the teams sent by the AKFI shall not be allowed to participate in the 1st Senior men’s World Beach Kabaddi Championships .”
