Barcelona : Twin goals from Robert Lewandowski, along with one from Thomas Muller saw Bayern Munich rout Barcelona 3-0 on their first encounter of the Champions League at Camp Nou. Elsewhere YSC Young Boys came from behind to stun Manchester United while Chelsea and Juventus register victories.

The Bavarians were thoroughly the better side, although Barcelona tried to match the intensity for the opening few minutes, pressing high and dropping back quickly. Eventually Bayern got hold of the match and dominated till the last minute.

Muller opened the net for Bavarians in 34th minute, the shot hit Eric Garcia’s backside and went past Marc Andre Ter Stegen who did not have much choice. 10 minutes into the second half Robert Lewandowski doubled their lead, and on 85 minutes he completed his brace hammering the final nail in the coffin.

Elsewhere, Manchester United faced a shocking 2-1 defeat against Young Boys for their opening UCL match. United played a major part of the game with a man less as Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s challenge on Christopher Martins got him a straight red card.

Despite of Cristiano Ronaldo scoring on his return to Champions League in the red jersey, United could not hold on to the lead playing with numerical disadvantage as Moumi Ngamaleu scored the equalizer on 66 minutes. Theoson Siebatcheu earned all the points when he scored the winner in the final minutes of the match owing to a Jesse Lingard mistake.

On the other hand Chelsea started their campaign against Zenit St. Petersburg with a 1-0 victory. Zenit gave some tough competition to the defending champions. They effectively blocked Chelsea for the major part of the match. Although, the only goal by Romelu Lukaku helped Chelsea walk away with a win, in an otherwise underwhelming performance from the one of the title contenders.

Juventus registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Malmo. The Bianconeri, had an easy game as their opposition stood no chance. Alex Sandro, Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata scored a goal each, as they crafted their first win kick starting their UCL journey.
