Kerala Blasters to debut in 2021 Durand Cup

Kochi: The 130th edition of the prestigious Durand Cup will see Kerela Blasters competing, the Indian Super League (ISL) club announced on Tuesday. The Yellow Army will make its debut in Asia’s oldest football tournament to be held in Kolkata between September 5 and October 3.

Apart from Kerala Blasters, the tournament will also include Jamshedpur FC, Bengaluru FC, FC Goa and Hyderabad FC among the ISL clubs. Defending champion Gokulam Kerala FC, Mohammedan Sporting Club and Sudeva Delhi FC will constitute I-League representation.

Six Indian Armed Air Force teams and two I-League second division clubs will also be a part of the tournament. The tournament will be held across three venues namely, Salt Lake Stadium, Mohun Bagan Club ground and Kalyani Municipal Stadium. The top two teams from each of the four groups advance to the knockout stage.

“We are very pleased to participate in this year’s Durand Cup. Hope that we will have good games ahead as it is very important to play games in this part of the pre-season. The tournament format could be an extra motivation for our players because we like to compete,” Blasters head coach Ivan Vukomanović said.
