Bengaluru : New Zealand saw yet another dominating day on Day 3 of 1st Test at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, owing to Rachin Ravindra’s ton and Tim Southee’s half century. However, Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan’s partnership put India back on track.
India started the day New Zealand on 180-3, leading by 134 runs. Ravindra Jadeja bagged quick 3-fer to give hopes of early wrapping of Kiwi innings.
However, their plans failed as Rachin Ravindra (134), Tim Southee (65) began began smashing Indian bowlers all over the park and built a partnership of 137 runs for the 8th wicket.
New Zealand ended their innings on 402 runs, leading by 356 runs, with Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav bagging 3-fers.
India coming to Bat took sensible approach and began forming good opening partnership owing to skipper Rohit Sharma (52) and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s (35) firm resistance and aggressive approach whenever required.
However, after building after 72 runs partnership, both of them got dismissed by Ajaz Patel in a matter of 4 overs, for 95 runs.
Virat Kohli (70) & Sarfaraz Khan (70*) took to the crease and after a while started bashing the Kiwi bowlers all over the park.
Forming a partnership of 136 runs, they brought India back on track. However, the worse happened as in the last Ball of Day 3, Glenn Phillips got the edge of Virat Kohli and he was caught behind by wicket keeper Tom Blundell, giving a big blow at the end of the Day.
India now trail by 125 runs, with score of 231-3 with 2 days left to play.
