Bay Oval: Jhulan Goswami, a veteran Indian spinner, grabbed her first wicket of the English innings on Wednesday, marking a significant achievement. Goswami became the first woman to capture 250 wickets in Women’s One-Day Internationals after dismissing Tammy Beaumont for 1 run. Goswami’s achievement came only three days after she eclipsed Australia’s Lynn Fullston as the Women’s World Cup’s all-time leading wicket-taker.
With West Indies chasing a massive target of 318 set by India, Goswami became the top wicket-taker in Women’s WCs by removing Anisa Mohammed in the 36th over of the innings. Thus, Fullston (39 wickets), the England combination of Carole Hodges (37 wickets) and Claire Taylor (36), and another Australian, Cathryn Fitzpatrick, lead the leaderboard (33).
Goswami took her 250th ODI wicket against England, trapping Beaumont in front of stumps. India, on the other hand, had a lacklustre performance with the bat in the game, being bowled out for 134 in 36.2 overs. Smriti Mandhana led the team in scoring with 35 runs.
100 ODI wickets meets 250 ODI wickets 🤝
Congratulations to @JhulanG10 on an unbelievable achievement. A warrior. A legend of the game. An inspiration to so many young girls who want to play cricket.#CWC22 pic.twitter.com/gZvgNERg3n
