Is Cristiano Ronaldo heading to Barcelona?

Turin: After the sacking of head coach Maurizio Sarri last week following Juventus’ exit from Champions League, reports claim that Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo has been offered to Barcelona by the Serie A champions in the summer transfer window.

The development comes in after Spanish football expert Guillem Balague spoke about Ronaldo on air with BBC Sport. Because of the COVID-19 crisis, the ‘Old Lady’ have suffered huge losses and due to the high wage that Ronaldo possesses, they are looking to reduce it by a possible transfer.

According to Ronaldo’s agent, the former Real Madrid star was linked with Paris St Germain last week but this one is new and could be the most exciting and mouth-watering transfer ever in this football decade.

Balague said, “The reason why Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked to PSG is not so much that PSG are thinking of getting him, it is because Jorge Mendes has been given instructions to find a team for Ronaldo.

“We’ve seen this in the last six months, he was linked to Real Madrid. They said ‘no chance, he’s not coming back’. And there’s been talks about the MLS because Juventus want to get rid of that wage. It is as drastic as that. He’s been offered everywhere, including Barcelona.”

“I’m not sure if they can get rid of him easily with the kind of money he still earns – 23m euros net – that he was earning at Real Madrid and I think he equalled those wages when he went to Juventus. Who is going to pay that kind of money?” he added.

After a Champions League loss in the Round of 16 against Lyon last week and a disappointing campaign at Juventus, speculations were high that the Portuguese superstar might leave Turin, but this news is going to be a blockbuster for every football fan all around the world.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have dominated the world football for a decade and if this transfer happens it’s going to be a clash of the fan bases. Two of the best playing together on the same side is rare in this football decade and the news of Ronaldo’s Barcelona move is recently hitting the deck. Back in 2007, he was offered a deal by the Catalan club which never happened.

The 35-year-old has scored 35 goals last season for the ‘Old Lady’ and was their main goal scorer in the last two seasons. Both the seasons he has managed to bag the Seria A title and a Copa Italia.
