A drop catch by skipper Rohit Sharma of Jaker Ali (68), when he faced his very first Ball, not only stopped Axar Patel from picking hat-trick but also proved costly for India.
Jaker along with Towid Hridoy (100) notched up vital 154 (206) runs partnership that brought Bangladesh back on track. Hridoy went on to score his maiden international hundred and helped Bangladesh to reach 228.
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami (5/53) announced his arrival with 5 wicket hall. Harshit Rana (3/31) & Axar Patel (2/43) too picked 5 wickets between themselves and restricted Bangladesh to low score.
Chasing 229 runs, India openers Rohit Sharma (41) & Shubman Gill (101*) went off to flying start with 69 runs opening stand.
However, after Rohit’s wicket India lost 3 wickets in quick interval of time with likes of Virat Kohli (22), Shreyas Iyer (15) & Axar Patel (8).
Despite Bangladeshi spinners building pressure by slowing down run flow on the slow Dubai track, Gill held his nerves till very end alongwith KL Rahul (41*), with match winning 87 runs partnership. Rahul’s six over backward square leg brought India past the target in 46.3 overs.
Gill’s 8th ODI ton of 101* (129) included 2 sixes and 9 boundaries and earned him man of the match.
India will next face arch rivals Pakistan on February 23, 2025 at same venue.
