Kolkata : Indian Head Coah Gautam Gambhir held the 1st press conference ahead of Sri Lanka tour on July 22.

He discussed about the fate of Indian legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, especially in ODIs. Both of them have retired from T20Is after successful Wt20 2024 victory.

Now the question remains how long will they continue in ODI Cricket. It’s confirmed that they’ll be in the team in Champions Trophy 2025 . But what’s after that? Will they be in the team or retire? Gambhir answered all today.

Gambhir said that despite their age factors, they’re star players & are in their plans, even till ICC ODI WC 2027 , subjected to fitness, which is the main condition.

“One thing I can be very clear of is that both of those guys (Rohit and Virat) have a lot of cricket left in them. More importantly, with the Champions Trophy and a big tour to Australia, obviously they would be motivated enough,” said Gambhir.

” I think they have shown what they can deliver on the big stage, whether it’s the T20 World Cup or the 50-over World Cup,” said Gambhir.

At the time of the 2027 World Cup, Rohit will be 40 years old, while Kohli will be 38. However, Gambhir did not rule them out of his plans for the World Cup.

“Hopefully, if they can keep their fitness, the 2027 World Cup as well,” said Gambhir.
