Kolkata : Former Indian captain and ex BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has taken a dig at the critics, who criticized him at time when he appointed Rohit Sharma India’s captain.
Sourav, speaking to Aajkal, recalled the time when he was criticized for making Rohit Sharma all format skipper.
In 2021, following India’s exit from ICC T20 WC 2021 , Virat Kohli was reportedly “forced” to step down as India’s captain by Sourav.
The controversy sparked when Kohli in a press conference said that he was unwillingly removed as Indian ODI skipper.
At the time, Ganguly had told the media that Kohli was removed from captaincy after a mutual agreement where the two parties discussed ideas peacefully.
Sourav also said that it was Kohli who wasn’t interested to lead in T20Is so he asked Kohli to step down from entire white ball Cricket.
Fans all over India criticised Sourav brutally, especially in social media and it was a heated topic for atleast a year.
On July 13, the former BCCI president, Sourav took a dig at the critics who criticized him when he appointed Rohit Sharma the captain.
Rohit has won T20 WC 2024 last month, the biggest achievement in his captaincy career internationally. It was Sourav who appointed him 3 years back.
Lashing out at critics, Sourav said to Aajkal, “When I handed Rohit Sharma the captaincy of the Indian team, everyone criticised me. Now that India has won the T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, everyone has stopped abusing me for it. In fact, I think everyone has forgotten that it was I who appointed him as the captain of the Indian team,”
Sourav , therefore, made a reminder to the fans who are cheering for Rohit the leader that it was he, who made him the captain & was trolled for it.
