Kolkata : Manchester City defeated Chelsea 2-0 in Premier League clash. Erling Haaland and Kovacic starred with goals. However, this match was more of a Haaland vs Cucurella than City vs Chelsea.
Cucurella had a great summer in Euro Cup 2024, playing a vital part in Spain’s winning campaign and emerging as top defender of the tournament.
During La Roja’s celebrations, Cucurella was heard singing his own chant but changing the words to take aim at Haaland. He sang: “Cucu cucu-rella, he eats paella, Cucu cucu-rella he drinks Estrella, Haaland you’d better tremble because Cucurella is coming!”
Now on August 18, Cururella’s Chelsea came face to face against Haaland’s Manchester City. Haaland opened accounts in 18 minutes to score his 1st goal breaking the defense barrier despite Cucurella’s challenge. Eventually, City won the match 2-0, serving a fitting reply to Cucurella’s chants.
Upon being asked about Cucurella post match, Haaland said, “He is a funny man. Last season he asked for my shirt. And this summer he sings a song about me.”
