PR Sreejesh in race for World Games Athlete of the Year award

Kolkata: Olympic bronze medal-winning India men’s hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has been nominated for the coveted World Games Athlete of the Year award and in the run of winning the honor. The winner will be selected following an online voting process which will begin on January 10 and end on  January 31.

Sreejesh, a triple Olympian with over 240 international appearances, was named FIH Goalkeeper of the Year for 2021 after a stellar year in which he helped his side win a historic bronze medal at the Tokyo Games.

If Sreejesh manages to win, he will be the second hockey player from the country to bag the title after women’s team skipper Rani Rampal.

In 2020, Rani became the first woman to win the accolade in the sport’s history.

The award has received nominations from a total of 24 athletes.

The top ten from the list of 24 will go to the final, which will be voted on until January 31.
