Watford: Bernardo Silva struck a brace as Manchester City climb to the Premier League summit with a 3-1 win over Watford at Vicarage road on Saturday.

After a thumping victory over Everton in the last, Pep Guardiola’s men came into the game with a lot of confidence and this was shown when City opened the account within four minutes as Phil Foden picked out Raheem Sterling at the back post for the simplest of headers. The visitors dominated the play right throughout the game with Bernardo joining the party with goal each in both halves. The Portuguese midfielder first found the net in the 31st minute slotting home from a narrow angle before producing a stunning strike into the top corner after the break.

Though Juan Hernandez managed to add a consolation but visitors’ dominance was there to see as they rode their way to earn full points.

City’s way to the top of the table happened largely due to Chelsea’s 2-3 defeat at the hand s of crosstown rivals West Ham in an away game.

Chelsea led twice, first through veteran Thiago Silva with a header in the 1st half from a corner and then from a thumping Mason Mount’s volley, but the visitors were brought back to the ground both times by a penalty from Manuel Lanzini after Mendy fouled Jarrod Bowen who was actually the scorer of the second goal for hosts after his pounced on a lose ball before striking it hard past Mendy.

It all came down in the 88th minute when West Ham stunned the Blues as substitute defender Arthur Masuaku, lurking out on the left wing, swung a speculative effort towards the Chelsea goal, deceiving Edouard Mendy to deny end Chelsea’s recent 8 match unbeaten run.

Elsewhere Liverpool left it until the dying seconds to fend off Wolverhampton Wolves 1-0 through a strike from substitute Divock Origi to take themselves one point clear of Chelsea at the top of the table.

The visitors dominated possession at the Molineux stadium firing 17 shots on goal but Wolves played their heart out to keep them at bay. The defending champions created multiple openings but their finished let them down notably an extraordinary miss from forward Diogo Jota, who managed to hit Conor Coady on the line from six yards when it looked easier to score.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were denied by Jose Sa at the Wolves goal. Then Origi’s late intervention sealed the game after the he was set-up by Salah going in behind the defence before the Belgian turned and slotted it home to snatch the victory.
