Rio de Janeiro: Defending champions Brazil went on a step further in booking their places for the Copa America quarterfinals as they crushed Peru 4-0 in a Group B encounter on Thursday. Neymar was again in the scoresheet inspiring the Selecao at the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos alongside Alex Sandro, Richarlison and Everton Ribeiro

The match was a repeat of the final two years back in 2019 and coach Brazil Tite went with the experience of Thiago Silva at the back as well as making five other changes.

The hosts had a scratchy outing into the break despite the early lead given by Alex Sandro. However, they turned up the heat after half-time as Neymar was again in his colours. Despite a penalty decision turned over by VAR, he got his goal slotting it past Peru goalkeeper Pedro Gallese with a precise low drive.

Richarlison and Everton Ribeiro who came on as subs helped their side in continuing their momentum. Ribeiro was picked out by Richarlison with a cut-back for the third goal before the latter struck the final nail in the coffin registering Brazil’s ninth international victory on the go. They will now face Colombia on June 23.
